Deep greens, highlighted with soft flowers and sparkles of light… that’s my idea of the perfect place to rest and let God heal my soul. I feel such peace in the garden. And yes! Here on Hawaii Island we do grow hydrangeas (in the higher elevations), tho I first fell in love with Hydrangeas several decades ago in the Pacific Northwest. This painting of a soft Laceleaf Hydrangea is painted in transparent watercolor on 140# cold press paper.
The Ohia is a much beloved yet endangered tree here on Hawaii island (research "Rapid Ohia Death" for more information and how you can help). I found this beautiful little Ohia seedling growing on my land and named the painting Keiki O Ka Aina, or, Child of the Land. This watercolor painting is available in a variety of sizes as a gallery-quality giclee print as well as the custom-framed 9x12 original watercolor here.
The fun and festive Ho'olaule'a Series would not be complete without one of these colorful geckos. This one hangs out in my studio. His name is "Art Gecko." This is an original 8x10 acrylic on canvas board in a custom mango wood frame.

The beauty of Hawaii comes in a multitude of layers, both near and distant. A flower blooming right before me, the majestic mountainsides above me. The view that inspired this painting had those vibrant layers of beauty as well as the encouraging reminder of the ancient Hebrew song writer: "I lift up my eyes to the mountains--where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."
This is an original, 9x12 acrylic on canvas board with custom frame.
A popular boat excursion on Hawaii island is an after-sunset snorkeling adventure to see Manta Rays. This Ray is welcoming us to an inspiring evening off Hawaii's Kona coast. This original 8x10 acrylic painting comes ready-to-hang in a custom black frame.
Prior to her move to Hawaii, Melanie lived in the Pacific Northwest and grew an award-winning rose garden. Though sad to leave her roses, she has found a new love and passion for her tropical garden filled with anthuriums. This painting reflects the joy she has in seeing these heart shaped flowers outside her windows. 11x15 on rough press watercolor paper.
