Hibiscus are everywhere in Hawaii. The reason is quite simple--they grow so easily. One day I was pruning a fairly large hibiscus bush in my front yard. In cleaning up the clippings I stuck two branches in our shallow ground (we have an inch or two of soil on top of solid lava rock. A month later one of those "sticks" was blooming. This painting celebrates the ever-abundant Hawaiian hibiscus with a bright yellow ("melemele") bloom.
As a resident of Hawaii island I am inspired by the islands' natural beauty on a daily basis. As an artist it is my passion to paint visual stories of that beauty and the resulting peace and joy I find here. I hope my work will inspire these in you as well.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy. Psalm 65:8
