There is nothing like driving amongst the red rocks in Arizona. Even as I took picture after picture for reference paintings, I began to see them. Faces of people in the shadows of the rocks. My mind began to wander through the many peoples who lived, and struggled, in this beautiful place throughout history. As a part of my “Lifted Countenance” series, if you look closely, you will see strength, fear, and tears.
