I've titled this painting "Reborn" for two reasons. First, the Mamaki is a native plant whose popularity has been reborn in Hawaii. Used by Native Hawaiians medicinally, it's popularity and use is returning. In fact, I have one growing in my own garden! Secondly, the butterfly is the most beautiful symbol of transformation and rebirth! These Kamehameha butterflies are one of only 2 species of butterflies endemic to Hawaii. They lay eggs and the caterpillars feed on the Mamaki plant. This 8x10 original is painted in transparent watercolor on 140# cold press paper in a black stock frame with black-core mat.
As a resident of Hawaii island I am inspired by the islands' natural beauty on a daily basis. As an artist it is my passion to paint visual stories of that beauty and the resulting peace and joy I find here. I hope my work will inspire these in you as well.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy. Psalm 65:8
